Area : 2km long / 805m wide
Particularité : It shelters a species of rare iguana "Iguana delicatissima". Iguanas are protected on these islands. We can observe green females and gray males. Enclosures of reproductions were installed by the authorities in order to revive the species.
History : Îlet Chancel (Îlet aux Iguanes) is one of nine Îlets in the Baie du Robert and is the largest island in Martinique (2km long / 805m wide).
With a rather eventful history, the island has changed several times. At the beginning of the colonization, the island is inhabited by the Caribbean. In 1637, the Caribbean donated the island to Madame Duparquet who named it "Ilet Monsieur". In the nineteenth century, the island is bought by a so-called Chancel who gives it its current name. To this day, a fisherman lives permanently on the islet.
